Project Management Seminar

In line with the NPC management's policy of keeping up with the latest trends and developments in managing petrochemical industries, a 6-day seminar on project management was held on July 29 in Ab-e-Ali Club, a Tehran suburb resort. Eighty managers, drawn primarily from the NPC's senior personnel and project managers as well as the contracting companies serving NPC's projects took part in the event.

The seminar was conducted by two veteran Canadian experts in project management training, Michael Stefanovic and Robert Fournier, both of whom have had long years of experience in petrochemical, gas and oil industries.

In his opening remarks to the seminar, NPC President, who personally joined many of the seminar sessions, enumerated the existing shortcomings in managing industrial projects in Iran demanding managers of the NPC's projects to do their best to iron out the pitfalls.

As a way of promoting the project management profession in Iran, Mr. Nematzadeh recommended establishing an Iranian management association, which was enthusiastically endorsed by the participants.

NPC's Director of Projects, Seyed Hassan Sadat who was also speaking at the opening of the seminar said that project management is a critical profession to Iran's expanding petrochemical industry and called on the managers of the NPC's projects to keep abreast of the latest ideas and trends in this field.

The 6-day seminar was followed by a one-day seminar in Tehran on Saturday August 5 with the aim of promoting general interest and awareness for project management as a specialized and well-developed management profession.

Rahbaran Petrochemical Company, an NPC subsidiary, which acts as its management training arm and Canada's Carlton University in collaboration with the NPC's Director of Projects organized the seminars.
