Fajr Petrochemical Co. (FPC) is expanding the NPC's centralized utility complex in Petrochemical Special Economic Zone, south of Iran. The expansion is being carried in two phases. It seeks to cater to the additional utility requirements by the upcoming petrochemical plants in the Zone. The first phase will consist of an air separation plant inclusive of a new train to produce argon gas. Construction work is underway on the plant with piling and civil works 100% completed. Erection of major pieces of equipment is also finished. Mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation work is moving forward with 50% progress achieved so far. The air separation plant is slated to be completed by March 2005. The first phase will also include a power plant consisting of two trains of gas turbines with an output capacity of 251MW. Work is in progress for selection of a contractor for the plant. The capacity of the existing water treatment plant will also be expanded by 1,170m3/hr. The second phase of the expansion project (FPC-II) will include a power plant, an air separation unit, a water treatment and effluent treatment facility. Due to Marun Petrochemical Company's requirement, the contract for the phase-2 effluent treatment plant was awarded in April 2004. FPC expects to issue tender documents shortly for the power plant, air separation unit and water treatment facility under phase two of Fajr expansion.
