Rapid and continued growth of petrochemical industry in Assaluyeh area is creating
a demand for residential areas. With thousands of engineers and technicians currently
involved in constructing several petrochemical projects and with those due to take charge
of operating the facilities after their completion, NPC is developing a township project
that will have 339 hectares of land some 50km Northwest of Assaluyeh to respond to the population
growth.
The township is called Jam, taking its name from the area where it is being built. It will
be home to a population of approximately 18,000 people. With future developments, it can
absorb up to 20,000 residents. The township will consist of 3,390 quality accommodations.
They include single and double-story detached and semi-detached houses and double-story
apartment buildings. Each unit will have an approximate area of 150 square meters.
The integrated project will also have commercial buildings and recreational units, including
shopping centers, mosque, library, sports centers, swimming pool, hospital, guesthouse,
restaurant, urban park, and other necessary facilities and infrastructure including fire
station, sewage system, telecommunication and post offices.
The construction work started in October 2003 and the project is slated to be completed in
three years' time. A local company, Atek, has been awarded the 'design and build' contracts
for the project.
