Fajr Petrochemical Co. (FPC), the NPC's wholly-owned centralized utility complex in Petrochemical Special
Economic Zone in Bandar Imam is operational, delivering utilities to a host of petrochemical plants at the
Zone. FPC is getting ready for official inauguration due to take place in the near future. Fajr consists
of four units: a power plant, an air separation unit, a water treatment complex, an effluent treatment plant
including an offsite facilities network.

The power plant produces 585MW of electricity and 830 tonne/hour of steam. The air separation plant
produces 15,000 Nm3/hour of instrument air, 16,500 Nm3/hour of service air, 18,000 Nm3/hour of nitrogen
and 19,000 Nm3/hour of oxygen. The water treatment plant purifies 7,000 m3/hour of water which it receives
from the Karoon River providing 7,000 m3/hour of fire-fighting water, 400 m3/hour of service water, 250
m3/hour of potable water, 3,900 m3/hour of reverse osmoses (RO) water. The effluent treatment plant has
a designed capacity of 460m3/h to treat and purify polluted waters, including oily polluted waters,
chemical effluents and sanitary effluents.

Work has already started to expand Fajr. The engineering work for train-III of the air separation plant
has been completed and piling work is in progress. Commissioning is scheduled for January 2005.
FPC expects to award a contract by 30 March 2004 for the supply of two other gas turbines (GT 6 & 7) with
a capacity of approximately 255MW. The gas turbines are planned to be commissioned by November 2006.
Work is also under way to expand the capacity of the water treatment plant with commissioning envisioned
for June 2006.
Meanwhile, offsite pipe rack and piping work for supplying utilities to all of the petrochemical facilities
located at site 2, 3 and 5 of the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone is in progress. The work is slated for
completion by December 2004.

NPC is planning to issue invitation-to-bid (ITB) documents to interested contractors for Fajr expansion which will
be built in a 20-hectare area. FPC has already started the site grading activities. Ths expansion project will consist of
an effluent treatment plant, a water treatment unit, an air separation facility and a power plant. The
completion target for the effluent treatment plant is January '05. Completion dates for the water treatment,
air separation and power plants are August, July and October 2006 respectively.
