"In every wind, I plant a seed."
Larousse, Pierre Athanase (1817-1875)
Besides its activities to plan and manage the development of the Iranian petrochemical
industry which form the nucleus of its mission, NPC has also a raft of public improvement
projects on the table or at hand.
One such project is the development of an urban park, known as Eram Park, which lies near
two major residential towns near the city of Mahshahr, southwest of Iran where thousands
of NPC employees and their families dwell. The project aims to conserve, maintain, and
improve the environment and at the same time create a more pleasing surroundings for the
NPC staff as well as the general public living in the area. The 45-hectare park is located
between the Jarrahi River and Chamran and Bessat towns. The parkland is heterogeneous in shape
and size. In its future plans, the parkland will expand its borders alongside the southern banks
of the Jarrahi River to form a green belt circumscribing the towns.
The park is a habitat to around 200,000 trees of various genus including Acacia nilotica Delile,
Acacia nubica Benth, Conocarpus erectus L., Citrus aurantifolia (Christm.) Swingle, Tamarix stricta
Boiss, Magnifera indica Blume, Callistemon viminalis G. Don ex Loud, Phoenix dactylifera L., Ficus
macrophylla Desf. and Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. to name only a few. A plant nursery will provide
the park with new supply of saplings for further expansion.
Developed sites include fishing and boating lakes, open-air swimming pool, fountains, children's
playgrounds, open-air cinema, an area equipped for skateboarding and roller-skating, traditional
coffee-houses. Over 11km of both walking and cycling trails have been constructed. Moreover, close
to 2km of riverside road have also been developed.
From the beginning of its development, the park was conceived to become a place where passers-by
and visitors might pause and enjoy a moment of quiet contemplation.
