On April 23, 2000, Iran's fifth International Oil, Gas, Petrochemical Exhibition & Conference opened in Tehran. In a message to the Exhibition, Iran's Minister of Petroleum, HE Bijan Namdar Zangeneh, said that, "Iran's fifth International Oil, Gas, Petrochemical Exhibition & Conference provides a valuable opportunity to exhibit activities, capabilities and development plans of the Iranian petroleum industry as well as new national and international technological achievements". Elsewhere in his message, he invited all potential investors and owners of technologies to participate more actively in the Iranian petroleum plans.

In the meantime, Zangeneh who had also taken part at the opening ceremony of the Conference, called for active participation of Iranian companies in the country's petroleum projects and their partnership with foreign companies. Addressing the opening ceremony of Iran's fifth International Oil, Gas, Petrochemical Exhibition & Conference, Zangeneh said, "the country's industry requires active participation of the Iranian companies, either independently or through partnership with creditable foreign companies, for implementing its development projects". He added that in addition to buy-back contracts, the Petroleum Ministry intended to attract $10 billion direct foreign investment to the industry in the course of the country's Third Development Plan (2000-2004).
Zangeneh also said that, "Since past year up to now, around $2 billion has been invested in the country's petrochemical industry and this year an additional investment of $2 billion will be finalized."
Some 166 foreign and 120 domestic specialized companies, active in petroleum industry, took part at the four-day event.
NPC and a number of its subsidiaries actively attended the Exhibition and displayed their products and services.

The Second International Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals Congress will be held in Tehran on May 16-18. The congress aims at creating a venue for Iranian and foreign researchers who are active in petroleum-related industries to exchange and share their latest findings and experiences. The major topics covered at the event include exploration & production, reservoir engineering & enhanced oil recovery, chemical processing in oil, gas & petrochemical industries, petroleum refining and products, polymer synthesis and production, specialty chemicals synthesis & production, transportation of raw materials and products, trouble shooting, maintenance and safety, environment protection management & engineering, energy conservation policies.
On the sidelines of the Congress a show will also be organized where companies can exhibit their capabilities, equipment and facilities in design, engineering and consultancy, new technologies, specialized software, instrumentation, materials and specialty chemicals.

ANT President at NPC's office |
In a presentation on March 12, 2000, the South Korean company, ANT Corporation, introduced its PTA technology to the NPC's managers and experts. The Corporation President, Dr. Myron M. Lee, gave the presentation during his visit to NPC.
He also held meetings with some of the NPC's officials, including the company President, Mr. Nematzadeh.
At his meeting with Mr. Nematzadeh, Dr. Lee expressed ANT Corporation's interest to participate in the NPC's projects particularly its PTA projects stressing that the PTA technology of ANT Corporation could compete with leading technologies available in the international markets. He said that ANT was ready to submit a proposal for a PTA plant in collaboration with Daewoo Engineering Company. NPC expressed its readiness to receive and study the ANT's proposal. The two sides agreed that a team of the NPC's experts would visit ANT's facilities in the near future.
