Iran's Vice President, Dr. Reza Aref says the growth of petrochemical industry is of crucial
importance for the development of Iran's economy. Speaking after a tour of NPC projects under
construction at Pars Special Economic/Energy Zone, Aref said the government supported the export
of petrochemical products adding, "the policy of 'non-oil exports leap' prepares the ground for
the promotion of petrochemicals output and export." He said: "instead of the export of raw material,
finished petrochemical products, which generate added value, should be exported." Aref said the
government would undoubtedly continue to support the development of the Iranian petrochemical
industry "as it did during the third development plan."
Indian Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, Ram Naik visited NPC's projects under construction at
Pars Special Economic/Energy Zone. During the visit, Nike toured the projects' sites for a firsthand
information where he received briefing on their overall progress. NPC is developing several world-scale
petrochemical facilities in the zone. India is a major export market for NPC.
