NPC's output reached an all-time high of 13.1m tonnes at the end of the past Iranian calendar year
which came to its end on 20 March 2003 posting a year-on-year rise of 5%. Output is expected to soar
up to 39m tonnes of a wide variety of products by 2005 when its underway projects are completed.
The output for the current Iranian calendar year (2003-04)is slated to reach 16mn tonnes.
Meanwhile, NPC's sales reached over $1.92bn by 20 March 2003. The company earned $941m from
exports and Rials 7,825bn ($978m) from domestic sales. During this period, 3.93m tonne of various
petrochemical products were exported and over 4.6m tonnes were sold domestically.
Much of the NPC's exports headed for the Far East representing 51% of the value of its exports. Other major
destinations included Middle East with 15%, Indian subcontinent with 13% and South East Asia with 13%.
Europe accounted for 6% of exports. A small portion of the exports found its way to Africa, CIS, Latin
America and Oceania. Exports earnings are expected to total $1.2bn by 20 March 2004. That total should
rise to $3.7bn by 2005 as new projects come on stream.
Some fifty Members of the Iranian Parliament or Majlis visited the projects that NPC is building in the
Petrochemical Special Economic Zone. During their visit, they toured the facilities for a firsthand look
and information. The parliamentarians received briefings on the latest status of the projects from the
managing director of each facility.
NPC is building several grassroots petrochemical projects in the Zone, which is the first specialized Zone
in Iran earmarked for the development of the country's petrochemical industry.
Dr. Ahmadi, an MP from the city of Aligoodarz who is a member of the Majlis Plan and Budget Commission said
the activities that he witnessed were being implemented in the Zone made a positive impression on him. He
stated that encouraging local and foreign investment in the Zone was a great stride in the right direction
for the economic growth of the country.
Seyyed Taher Taheri, an MP from the city of Semnan and a member of the Industries and Mines Commission praised the
activities that NPC was carrying out for developing Iran's petrochemical industry. He said that he found NPC's
staff working with diligence and fervor on the projects.
