NPC is in the process of building an ammonia/urea plant at Pars Special Economic/Energy Zone in
Assaluyeh south of Iran.
The plant will be built in an area of 47 hectares. It is slated to produce 2050 tonne/day
(677,000 tonne/year) of ammonia and 3250 tonne/day of granulated urea. Kellogg has been
appointed the licensor for the ammonia plant and Stamicarbon for the urea facility.
A consortium formed by Toyo Engineering Corporation and Chiyoda Corporation of Japan and
Petrochemical Industries Design and Engineering Co. (PIDEC) of Iran will perform detailed
and basic engineering, procurement and construction work. The project is progressing
smoothly with an overall physical progress of 35% of EP work completed by October 2002.
Basic engineering work started in July 2001 and is 100% completed. Detailed engineering work,
which began in December 2001, is 75% completed. Construction work started in February 2001.
Two local companies, Karan Darya and Saku Kar are doing the construction work.
It will use methane as feed that will be supplied from C2 extraction from phases 1,2 and 3
of South Pars Gas field. The project is scheduled to be commissioned in 2004.
