Tabriz Petrochemical Company (TPC), an NPC subsidiary, is making headway with its acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) project which is already under construction within the battery limit of the complex site.
The project has been formulated in line with the company's expansion plans and includes construction of butadiene (BD) extraction and ABS units.
BASF and Lurgi have provided technology for the BD plant. The contract for the 17,000-t/y BD plant's basic engineering was awarded to Lurgi of Germany and Chegalesh of Iran while procurement contract was given to Chegalesh and Ecolaire.
The plant's basic engineering is completed while detailed engineering is 98% complete. The BD plant's overall progress stands at 74%.
Once operational, it (BD) will produce over 16,500-t/y of butadiene 1-3 and over 15,000-t/y of raffinate. The BD plant will consume 34,000-t/y of C4-cut as its feedstock that will be supplied by TPC's existing olefin plant.
The 35,000-t/y ABS plant is being built in an area of 25,500m2. It will consume some 19,200-t/y of styrene, some 6,000-t/y of butadiene, 8,300-t/y of acrylonitrile and 1,130-t/y of AMS as its feed. Styrene and butadiene will be supplied by TPC while acrylonitrile will be imported.
The contract for the provision of technology was signed with Samsung and Cheil of South Korea while the basic engineering contract was given to Samsung. Sazeh of Iran and Samsung were given the procurement contract.
The plant's basic and detailed engineering are completed. Overall progress for the procurement of equipment and material stands at 99.7%. The ABS plant's overall progress is around 80%.

Fajr Petrochemical Co., the NPC's utility company in the Petzone, has successfully completed the installation of the generator of its 4th unit. The generator was manufactured and supplied by Alstom. Installation activities at the second phase of the project's power plant, which includes units 3, 4 and 5, have started and the erection of the 4th unit's gas turbine is in progress.

Meanwhile, installation work at the first phase of the power plant, which consists of unit 1 and 2 is making headway with over 2,500 metric ton of equipment and machinery, including gas turbines, auxiliary boilers and transformers erected so far. The first phase, which is over 87% complete, is expected to be ready for start up by mid 2002. The second phase is anticipated to be commissioned by end of 2002.
