NPC will built its 4th aromatics project at Pars Special Economic/Energy
Zone in Assaluyeh on the northern coast of the Persian Gulf. The plant
will produce 750,000-t/y of para-xylene, 100,000-t/y of ortho-xylene and
430,000-t/y of benzene. It will also produce 380,000-t/y of raffinate,
680,000-t/y of light ends and 1,980,000-t/y of heavy ends, 83,000-t/y of
LPG, 16,000-t/y of heavy aromatics and 55,000-t/y of C5+. The Engineering
and Procurement (EP) contracts have been awarded to a consortium of Japan's
Toyo Eng., Korea's LG Eng. & Construction Corp. and Iran's Sazeh Consultants.
Technology contracts for the plant's units, except for the benzene plant, have
been awarded to IFP. The contract for the benzene plant's technology has been
given to Toray of Japan. Project management and construction contractors have
not been selected yet.The project's basic engineering has been almost completed
while detailed engineering is 27.4% complete. Physical progress for procurement
and site preparation & infrastructural activities stand at 10.8% and 3% respectively.
The project's overall progress stands at 12.24%.The plant will consume 4.5-mt/y of
gas condensate which will be supplied by the South Pars gas field, 270,000-t/y of
pyrolysis gasoline which will be supplied by the neighboring 9th and 10th olefin plants.
4th aromatics project, listed under phase three of the NPC's Strategic Development
program, is scheduled to be completed by 2004.
The NPC subsidiary, Borzouyeh Petrochemical Co. is responsible for implementing and
running the project.
