A high-ranking delegation from NPC, headed by Deputy Petroleum Minister & President of NPC, H.E. Nematzadeh, paid an official visit to Saudi Arabia on February 11-19, 2000, at the invitation of the Saudi Arabia Basic Industries Company (SABIC). During their stay, NPC President and his accompanying team, including two of the NPC board members, visited SABIC, its petrochemical facilities and a number of petrochemical plants located at Al-Jubail. The Iranian team commended SABIC's role in developing Saudi Arabia's petrochemicals sector.

In their negotiations, NPC and SABIC officials discussed several issues including the necessity for expansion of bilateral/regional cooperation and joint investment. In this connection, a contract was signed for the export of the NPC's benzene to Saudi Arabia, which will be consumed by petrochemical plants at Al-Jubail. Moreover, the two sides decided to cooperate on exporting benzene via Yanbu industrial zone.

In his meeting with SABIC Vice Chairman and Managing Director, H.E. Al-Mady, NPC President invited him to represent SABIC at Iran Petrochemical Forum "IPF 2000", due to be held in Tehran on May 6-7, 2000, as keynote speaker. Welcoming the invitation, SABIC President agreed to participate in the Forum.

On February 7, 2000, the Pakistani Ambassador to Iran, H.E. Javid Husain met with Deputy Petroleum Minister and NPC President, H.E. Nematzadeh to discuss future cooperation. At the meeting, Mr. Nematzadeh expressed NPC's willingness to expand its commercial ties with Pakistan indicating that NPC was ready to study the proposals of the Pakistani companies for participating in its projects. The Pakistani Ambassador said that he would do his best to expand bilateral cooperation between Irano-Pakistan petrochemical sectors. The two sides decided to define areas of mutual interest for further cooperation.

A delegation from the German BHF Bank, headed by Senior Vice President, International Banking Division, Mr. Hans Gunter Wiesenack, met with NPC President H.E. Nematzadeh. Referring to relationship between NPC/BHF, Mr. Wiesenack said that BHF intends to expand its cooperation with NPC. He said that BHF has already financed some of the NPC's projects and is in the process of negotiation to finance some other projects. H.E. Nematzadeh expressed his guidelines and views for rapid expansion of ties between NPC and BHF.



On 13 February 2000, a delegation from the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Tehran paid a one-day visit to petrochemical facilities located at Mahshahr region, southwest of Iran. The delegation, headed by the Embassy's Head of Economic and Cultural Section, Ms. Nathalie Lintvelt, toured the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone (Petzone) and Bandar Imam Petrochemical Complex (BIPC). The visit was arranged at the behest of the Embassy in a bid to get a deeper insight into the NPC's development programs, especially its projects in the Petzone.
