NPC's second international annual forum, IPF2000, entitled Petrochemical Industry in the New Millennium will be opened by Iran's Petroleum Minister, H.E. Bijan Namdar Zangeneh on May 6, 2000 in Tehran. The two-day forum will address issues of greatest concern to the petrochemical industry, including prospects for the industry (production, market and prices), environmental and energy concerns, management in petrochemical industry (safety, manpower, globalization, restructuring), feedstock & research and development. It also reviews the past and present conditions of Iran's petrochemical industry and spotlights its prospects and advantages for development.A number of Iranian s or government officials and top executives from foreign petrochemical companies and financial institutions will attend the event. So far, high-ranking executives from the leading European, Asian and Middle Eastern companies, including Snamprogetti, Technip, Petronas and SABIC have confirmed their participation as keynote speakers.
In the sideline of the forum, two workshops on the conversion of gas to liquid (GTL) and alkane dehydrogenation will be organized. The two-day event in Tehran will be followed by a one-day optional visit to the historic city of Esfahan.
The first IPF was held in 1999 and some 600 participants from leading domestic and foreign companies were present at the event.

Representatives from NPC took part in the following international events during the months of January and February:

     Head of Planning and Control Department of Bandar Imam
     Petrochemical Company (BIPC), Mr. Ali Ehyaee, made a presentation at
     the event entitled "NPC's Experience and Development Plans".

NPC, in collaboration with the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry, organized a two-day international seminar on ammonia plants on February 14-15, 2000 in Tehran. The major topics presented at the seminar included: design and simulation of ammonia plants, corrosion review and its control, energy recovery, operation and maintenance aspects for reformers, catalysts, ammonia refrigeration systems, control systems in compressors and process plants.
Some three hundred participants from domestic and foreign companies attended the event. The foreign companies included Ammonia Casale S.A. and Sulzer of Switzerland, Borsig, Sud Chemie and Krupp Uhde all from Germany, Haldor Topsoe of Denmark, ABB Automation, Synetix & ICI of Britain, United Catalysts India Ltd. of India and Snam Progetti of Italy. Twenty-two papers were presented to the seminar of which 13 were presented by the foreign participants. NPC experts contributed 6 papers.
