ParsEE is located on the northern coast of the Persian Gulf nearby the port of Assaluyeh some 270 kilometers south east of port of Bushehr. Established in 1998 by High Council for Industrial Free Trade Zones, ParsEE lies in the vicinity of the South Pars gas field. The field, jointly owned by Iran and Qatar, is the world's largest independent gas field. It has gas-in-place reserves of 436TCF representing 8% of the world's total reserves and 40% of Iran's proven reserves. It also has approximately 17 billion barrels of condensates. The field will be developed in various phases with each phase yielding some 26million cubic meters of gas and 40 000 barrels of condensates per day. Construction of phases 1, 2 and 3 of South Pars gas field development is progressing. Meanwhile, a 56inch pipeline, Trans-Iranian Gas Trunk Line (IGAT-3), will transfer gas from the field to Vali-e-Asr refinery in Kangan to be processed for domestic consumption.Gas from the South Pars field has a relatively high content of C2+, over 8.5%, and considerable amount of gas condensates.Based on the feedstock obtainable from the field's phases 1-3, NPC has planned to build four world scale petrochemical facilities and a centralized utility plant in ParsEE. They include a methanol, an aromatic, a centralized utility, an ammonian/urea, a GTL and two olefin facilities. The methanol plant will have a capacity of 1.6m-t/y methanol. The aromatics facility will produce 750 000-t/y of para-xylene, 100 000-t/y of ortho-xylene, 430 000-t/y of benzene and 3.2m-t/y of by-products. The 9th olefin project will produce 1 000 000-t/y of ethylene, 600 000-t/y of styrene, 300 000-t/y of HDPE/LLDPE, 300 000-t/y of LDPE, 30 000-t/y of pyrolysis gasoline and 90 000-t/y of C3+ while the other olefin plant, the 10th olefin project will produce 1 320 000-t/y of ethylene, 305 000-t/y of propylene, 200 000-t/y of alfa olefins, 300 000-t/y of LLDPE/HDPE, 300 000-t/y of HDPE, 440 000-t/y of ethylene glycol, 300 000-t/y of polypropylene, 216 000-t/y of pyrolysis gasoline and 22 000-t/y fuel oil. The ammonia/urea project will produce 2050-t/d (676,500-t/y) of ammonia and 3250-t/d (1.07-mt/y) of urea.As work proceeds on the next gas development phases, NPC will plan for further construction of petrochemical plants in ParsEE.
