NPC and Basell sign MOU to conduct joint research activities

NPC and Basell inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) relating to a possible collaboration in research and development activities in the polyolefins field. Basell has expressed its readiness in the proposed MOU to start discussions with NPC and its affiliates to explore feasibility studies for such research and development activities, including the implementation of pilot plans. The MOU covers training programs, consultation on polyolefins research activities and conducting joint venture based research projects as well as research on the implementation of polyolefins pilot plants.
NPC will build several polyolefins facilities in the framework of its development plans and would therefore like to be active in polyolefins research. It has awarded Basell several technology contracts for its olefins plants, including three recent contracts for No. 10 olefin's 300 000 tonne/year low density polyethylene (lldPE), 300 000 tonne/year high density polyethylene (hdPE) and 300 000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) plants. These three contracts were awarded to Basell in late 2000.
