A high ranking NPC delegation, headed by the company's President is planning to visit Japan in late March. During their stay, the delegation will visit several petrochemical and industrial sites and will hold meetings with petrochemical and engineering companies as well as trading houses, banks and financial institutions. They will also take part in a seminar organized by Japan Consultant Institute (JCI) to delineate investment opportunities in Iran's petrochemical industry. The delegation will also follow up and review the latest development with regards to contracts awarded to Japanese companies.
NPC top-ranking delegation tour Europe
A top-ranking delegation from NPC, headed by Deputy Petroleum Minister and NPC President, M. R. Nematzadeh, visited Europe on 6-13 February '01. The delegation first visited Milan and held meetings with several Italian companies, including Basell, Eni Tecnology, Snamprogetti, Alstom Power, Foster Wheeler, Eurotecnica, Noyvallesina, Radici Group. At the meetings, they discussed issues of mutual interest and followed up the latest developments and pending matters with regards to the NPC's development projects. They also toured Basell's R&D center and pilot plants, Eni Tecnology's R&D and laboratory facilities, Alstom Power's generator factory at Sesto San Giovanni, Textile Produkte, Radic Novacips, Aussapol and Geogreen,Radici Film and Radici Chimica. The NPC delegation also met with officials from BCI, Medio Banca and SACE.
They attended a one-day seminar on 8 February that sought the potentials and prospects available for investing in Iran's petrochemical industry. NPC President gave a speech at the event (details available on NPC News Bulletin Nos. 13-14, Conferences, Seminars and Exhibitions section).
After Italy's visit, the NPC team headed for Leuna, Germany to visit Leuna Industrial Complex, which produces caprolactam, phenol, acetone and cumene. They toured BP's polyethylene site and its R&D facility in Marseille, France. In England, NPC delegation and BP reviewed their relationship and followed up their negotiations regarding the NPC's cracker at Assaluyeh.
German ambassador meets NPC's president
The new German's ambassador to Tehran, Rudiger Reyels met with the NPC President, M. R. Nematzadeh and reviewed the relationship between NPC and German companies. At the meeting, NPC President briefed Reyels on the NPC's activities and its future plans reviewing the contribution that German companies have made to the NPC's development plans.
Nematzadeh said the current level of cooperation was satisfactory, however, there were still potentials for further progress. Referring to the existing comparative advantages, including huge available feedstock, that NPC offers, he recommended German companies to form joint venture alliances with NPC saying that some German companies are expected to discuss joint investment with NPC. Reyels said the plans and achievements NPC has had impressed him. The two sides also underlined the role of the German's export coverage agency, Hermes in supporting NPC projects. Reyels said the agency would continue its cooperation with NPC.
SINOPEC delegation in NPC
A high-ranking delegation from China's SINOPEC headed by the company's president, Li Yizhong, met NPC President in a bid to expand the bilateral ties between the two companies. At the meeting, the current relations and areas for future cooperation between NPC and SINOPEC were reviewed. SINOPEC and one of the NPC's production subsidiaries are currently holding negotiations over an ethylene revamp project to boost the current ethylene output to a more economic and competitive amount. NPC and SINOPEC have also signed an R&D agreement following NPC President visit to China in 1999. The Chinese company has provided NPC's third aromatics project with its transalkylation license.
At the meeting with Li Yizhong, Mr. Nematzadeh referred to trade, project execution, engineering services, R&D and joint investment as areas for further cooperation between NPC and SINOPEC. He stated that Iran's rich oil and gas reserves and China's growing market bridge the two countries' interests.
A Tunisian delegation visits RPC
A technical team from the Group Chimique Tunisien (GCT) of Tunisia visited the NPC subsidiary, Razi Petrochemical Complex (RPC) and discussed technical cooperation for revamping the complex's phosphoric acid and diammonium phosphate (DAP). During their visit, the GCT's team toured RPC's phosphoric acid and DAP plants and were briefed on the plants' production status and processes. RPC and GCT's teams explored ways of expanding the capacity of DAP plants.
RPC is planning to debottleneck and revamp the two plants. It has two DAP plants with an overall capacity of 450,000 tonne/year and a phosphoric acid plant with a capacity of 255,000-tonne/year. RPC and GCT also discussed joint investment for establishing a phosphoric acid plant in Tunisia.
