German Minister of Economics and Senegalese Minister of Commerce visit NPC pavilion


On October 3, a high-ranking German delegation headed by Dr. Werner Mueller, Federal Minister of Economics and Technology, toured the NPC's pavilion at the 26th Tehran International Trade Fair. The NPC President received the delegation at the pavilion and briefed them on the latest developments and trends with regard to the company's projects.
   
Also, Landing Savane, Senegalese Minister of Commerce, Industries and Mines visited the NPC's pavilion at the fair and met with Mohammad Ehtiati, the Chairman of Petrochemical Commercial Company (PCC). Savane and Ehtiati discussed PCC's purchase of Senegalese phosphate rock and export of 500,000-t/y of NPC's sulfur to Senegal.



Spanish Secretary of State for Commerce and Tourism at NPC


On October 21, 2000, Spanish Secretary of State for Commerce and Tourism, J. Costa met with Deputy Petroleum Minister and NPC President, M.R. Nematzadeh at NPC headquarters. At the meeting, Costa termed the economic relations between Iran and Spain as good, saying that Iran is Spain's fourth major trading partner. He underscored that Spanish companies are keen to cooperate with NPC in developing its projects. Briefing Costa on the latest status of the Spanish companies involvement in the NPC's projects, Nematzadeh expressed his satisfaction over the cooperation of the Spanish companies, banks and financial institutions with NPC for implementing its projects.

Mr. Costa was accompanying a top-ranking Spanish delegation to Iran headed by the Spain's Prime Minister, J. M. Aznar.



Spain-Iran Investment and Trade Seminar


On the sidelines of the Spanish Prime Minister's visit to Tehran, a seminar on investment and trade opportunities between Iran and Spain was held in Tehran on October 22. Addressing the seminar, which was attended by senior officials from the two countries, including top executives from leading Spanish banks, financial institutions and companies, NPC President, M. R. Nematzadeh explained to the participants, on the developments underway in Iran's petrochemicals sector.
   He also referred to the collaboration of the Spanish companies and banks in the NPC's projects outlining the opportunities available for further cooperation.


Repsol and NPC review ties


Repsol's Europe Director General, Mr. Mario Rosso, met with the NPC President and discussed issues of mutual interest, including the NPC's LNG and GTL projects as well as trade relations between the two companies. Repsol is an NPC trade partner buying from it several petrochemical products, including LPG and propylene.


LG Vice President meets NPC President


In a meeting on October 21, 2000, Sunny S. H. Huh, Vice President of the Korean company LG, met with NPC President M. R. Nematzadeh and reviewed mutual ties and plans for future cooperation. LG along with Japan's Toyo Engineering and Iran's Sazeh form a consortium that won a contract in June 2000 for the construction of the NPC's aromatics no. 4 project. Mr. Huh informed the NPC President of his company's interest in taking part in other NPC development projects, particularly, LAB and PA/DOP. He also said that LG is seeking a part in the gas development projects in PARSEE (formerly Assaluyeh). Nematzadeh told the LG Vice President that state-of-the-art technology and quality engineering work are two crucial factors that NPC expects from its contractors in constructing its projects. He added that it is based on these factors that NPC selects licensors and engineering companies.


A Veba Oil team in NPC


A team from Veba Oil, headed by the company's Chairman of the executive Board, Mr. Wilhelm Bonse-Geuking met with the NPC officials on October 3, 2000 to explore their existing trading ties and possible future cooperation. Mr. Bonse-Geuking lauded the NPC's development plans and said his company is ready to further cooperate with NPC. He also outlined Veba Oil's participation in Iran's oil-field development projects.

Mr. Nematzadeh proposed joint cooperation by NPC and Veba Oil in either the NPC's development projects or in petrochemical projects in third party countries.

Veba Oil is a trading partner to NPC.


NPC-Pallidor's R&D cooperation starts


Subsequent to the conclusion of an R&D consultancy contract between NPC and Canada's Pallidor Inc. in September 2000, (NPC News Bulletin # 8&9), Pallidor has kicked off its activities in the framework of the contract. In a meeting with the NPC President in October 2000, a team from Pallidor, headed by L. C. Brodner, the corporation's President, briefed the activities they had done so far and the steps they should go through in the future. On his part, Nematzadeh, rendered guidelines on the project.


German Ambassador to Tehran bids farewell to NPC President


The outgoing German Ambassador to Tehran, Klaus Zeller met Deputy Petroleum Minister and NPC President, M. R. Nematzadeh on October 16, 2000 and reviewed the current Irano-German relationship. Zeller called for the continuation of cooperation between NPC and the German companies in the field of petrochemicals. He expressed optimism over the prospect of mutual ties between Iran and Germany saying that given the existing potentials in both countries it is necessary to prepare the ground for expansion of cooperation between the two countries. He thanked Nematzadeh for his efforts to expand relationship between NPC and the German companies.

   Nematzadeh gave an account of the current level of cooperation between NPC and the German companies involved in the NPC's projects expressed his appreciation for Mr. Zeller's role in broadening the ties between the two countries.
