National Petrochemical Company (NPC) plans to convene its second annual Iran Petrochemical Forum "IPF 2000", titled "Petrochemical Industry in the New Millennium during 6-8 May 2000 in Tehran.

The focus of the seminar will be on long term opportunities for investment in the international petrochemical industry, future market potentials for the products and associated process technologies. A last day visit to NPC's petrochemical complex in Esfahan plus touring the ancient city of Esfahan is scheduled.

NPC held its first international forum in Tehran on 19-21 April 1999. More than 600 delegates from overseas and local companies and institutions were present at this event.

The 25th Tehran International Trade Fair was held 9-15 October 1999. Numerous companies, both foreign and local, attended the Fair. NPC and its subsidiaries actively took part in the event and exhibited their latest achievements. During the Fair, a number of high-ranking Iranian and foreign VIPs visited NPC stands. President Khatami toured NPC stands on the opening day and was briefed about the most recent trends & developments in the company. The Deputy Minister of Economics of Germany, the Jordanian Minister of Commerce, and the President of SABIC from Saudi Arabia visited NPC stands and held talks with NPC officials.

NPC held a one-day seminar in Hamburg, Germany on September 2, 1999. NPC presented details of its development projects and comparative advantages in an attempt to boost foreign investment at the seminar, entitled "Petrochemicals; New Opportunities in Iran" which was organized by German Near and Middle East Association (Nah-und-Mittelost-Verein) with the collaboration of NPC International Ltd., London.

Some 200 participants, including high-ranking officials from the Economic Affairs of Hamburg, Federal Ministry of Economics & Technology of Germany, German banks, financial institutions and companies plus a number of Iranian officials attended the seminar. Following the seminar, the German companies and institutions held individual meetings with the NPC delegation. They reviewed the current status of their relation and future fields of cooperation.

Following its successful international seminars in Europe, NPC in collaboration with the Athens based Consolidated Contractors Company, organized a one-day seminar in Cairo, Egypt. NPC delegates participaling in the seminar elucidated investment advantages in Iran's petrochemical industry, its techno-engineering capabilities and bilateral trade opportunities in petrochemicals.The seminar was attended by officials from the Egyptian Government and petrochemicals related industries. On sideline of the seminar, the Egyptian Minister of Oil received the NPC delegation.

NPC attended the fifth Pan-Arab/African Exhibition for Plastics & Rubber in Egypt held in Cairo on October 27-31, 1999. NPC was also present at the solo exhibition of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Cairo. Many Egyptian companies visited the NPC stand and expressed their interest in establishing trade and technical cooperation with NPC.

Delegations from NPC took part in several internationally held exhibitions and seminars in the months of October and November 1999. Following is a list of some of these events:

  • Saudi Chem'99, in Saucli Arabic, November 21-24.
  • China Polyester & PET Markets, in China, October 13-14.
  • Fibers and Feedstocks' 99, in Singapore, November 4-5.
  • Oil refining and Petrochemical in the Middle East, in Abu Dabi
      October 25-26.

The Dinish Company Borealis held a one-day seminar on its Borstar Technology at NPC on December 6, 1999 . The key topics at the seminar were the introduction of the Borealis technology for the production of PE and PP, economics of Borstar and its licensing. Some seventy NPC employees were present at the event. On the sideline of the seminar, Borealis Executive Vice President, Mr. Walter Kadl, met with NPC President H.E. Mr. Nematzadeh and conferred on ways of expanding bilateral ties.

On November 5, 1999, the German Company SGL Carbon Group held a one-day seminar at NPC on corrosion protection. The seminar was entitled "Corrosion Protection, Advanced Technology for High Corrosive Applications."
