MIS & Computer division is a subgroup of the directory of
Planning & Development in NPC, which has been founded with the aim of the
establishment and management of information systems effectively all over the
company.
Up to recent years, the only job of MIS&C division
was identified as computer services including hardware and software support and
maintenance. A nearly complete but old-fashioned MIS set of programs has been
almost the only tool for decision making at all managerial levels. Some island
systems in forms of different applications were developed by MIS&C and installed
in NPC units and some of NPC affiliated companies.
Due to establishment of fast, continuous
communication, which has been facilitated by internet and intranet technologies
in one side, and subsequent increasing demands by staff in the other side, the
mission of MIS&C has transformed significantly from a computer services
department to an IT division for the NPC as a whole.
Providing different solutions and standards, as well
as establishment of integrity among systems, consistency in data and information
disseminated around NPC, security and reliability in communication are becoming
the main tasks (and even the main purpose) of MIS&C division so that it leads to
this transformation.
In recent years applying new technologies and
Enterprise systems (such as: ERP, CRM, SCM, e-commerce), as well as expert
systems and artificial intelligence, Data mining and Data warehouse, knowledge
based solutions, has received significant attention.
Considering IT needs of such NPC key units as: Human
Resource Management (Administration and Training), Market Research,
Environmental protection, Project Management, Production and Planning has
resulted in some extensive research conducted by MIS&C to provide appropriate
solutions for improvement of these critical tasks.
Experts in MIS&C division are now involved in
continuous research about new tools and technologies, and for this purpose they
enjoy increasingly external consultancy and management and staff support.
Knowledge management and competitive intelligence
are two of the hottest matters with which MIS&C’s experts are involved, and
ultimate purpose of them is elevating the competitive position of NPC in global
market place.
Since MIS&C has the role of IT for the whole NPC,
and it plays a critical role in present and future condition of NPC, it should
fortify itself at first, enhance its strengths and take advantage of
opportunities. In addition, identifying a clear mission and vision, as well as
an accurate measurement resulted from internal and external analysis to
recognize weaknesses and threats are necessary to develop a strategy for MIS&C
division, and this strategy should be in alignment with overall strategy of NPC
which is based on globalization and reaching to the level of fifteen folds for
revenue. |
